Do what you can, where you are, with what you’ve got. It seems simple, logical, and reasonable. But we spend so much of our time and energy trying to impact things we cannot impact.

#19 is… Be present not preoccupied.
Preoccupied is one of the great curses of our age. Everyone has experienced someone preoccupied with their phone or preoccupied with themselves. Their preoccupation makes them unable to be present. Preoccupied is unavailable.
Of course, it is easy to recall times other people have been preoccupied. But when was the last time you were preoccupied?
Sometimes we can’t focus on the current thing because we are thinking about the next thing, and sometimes we are still caught up in the last thing. But preoccupied always prevents us from being present. And we can’t have our best anything if we are not present.
Everything good begins with being present. Being present is empowering. Your power to do good, and be good, and unleash a tidal wave of goodness in this world is relinquished when you are preoccupied.
What’s the answer? Be present… and do what you can, where you are, with what you’ve got.
